BioDesign Team

What is BioDesign?
BioDesign is a UF ASME student design team that strives to teach students about the overlap between engineering and biomechanics in order to create a robotic lower-body exoskeleton for the ACE Competition. The team is divided into four subteams, which will all tackle different components of the design.
What is the ACE Competition?
The ACE (American Collegiate Exoskeleton) Competition that tests the functional capabilities of each team’s exoskeleton. It focuses on the ABET testing that firefighters have to be capable of doing. Some tests will include having the pilot walk on a balance beam, crouch walking, traversing uneven terrain, etc. The competition will evaluate the time it takes to put on and take off the exoskeleton, design and material decisions, and cardio performance with and without the suit.
What Are The Different Subteams?
BioDesign consists of four subteams: structures, electrical systems, control systems, and OpenSIM. Due to having multiple design teams, all engineers of different backgrounds can collaborate and are encouraged to join! Based on your goals and expertise, we will place you where you best fit.
